Welcome Messages

Welcome message from the Ambassador of Greece in Lebanon Mr. Panos Kalogeropoulos

It is with particular joy and a sense of pride that I address these welcoming words to all the members of the League of Lebanese Graduates from Greek Universities (LLGGU) and all visitors of its site.

As the Greek Ambassador in Lebanon, I have been following year after year the expanding activity of the League, in an ever widening field of interest. What started fifteen years ago as an association of young professional scientists sharing the same experiences from their years of study in Greece, is gradually developing into a dynamic group of people motivated by a sense of cooperation and by their love for Greece, its culture and its people. This very people that embraced them at the beginning of their academic life in a foreign land, that very soon proved to be not foreign at all!

It is often said that University years are the best time in a person’s life. All the more so when these unroll in a human and natural environment so similar to your own. Academic year after academic year, the graduates of today came to experience at first hand the hospitality of Greece and its people, they built friendships withstanding the distance and time factors and received a higher education that helped them secure a better future for them and their families.

It is especially gratifying to the Greek Government that the League has set among its targets the spreading of Greek culture and the enhancement of multilayered relations between Lebanon and Greece. I commend the competence and tireless activity of LLGGU displayed by President Dr.Georges Scheib in this regard, as manifested in the numerous initiatives undertaken so far, i.e the annual New Year “Vassilopita” event or the Contemporary Greek Cinema Festival held last November in Beirut.

The Foreign Ministry in Athens and the Embassy of Greece express their satisfaction and appreciation for the work of the LLGGU and its members and wish to assure them of their will to assist in any way they can in order to realize their projects to the benefit of the wider Greek-Lebanese cooperation in the cultural, scientific and human fields.

Panos Kalogeropoulos
Ambassador of Greece in Lebanon
